In the land of geckos and rainbows...

I started walking around neighborhood to get a little exercise after dinner. Or at least to work off my dinner before I go to the gym. I noticed that this neighborhood is filled with kids. Tons of them! Kids are riding their bikes, playing with puppies, and shooting hoops into basketball goals. Teenagers prop themselves next to self-constructed skateboard ramps and drive around in the cars they just got for sweet sixteen. The little ones walk with mom, dad, sis, and family pet as they stroll along the sidewalks. And around every corner is another baseball game in the middle of the street. Suburban bliss.
I have also noticed the geckos that scatter as you walk along the sidewalk. After living in Auburn, Alabama (abundance of roaches) for two years, it still startles me when I see something flit from the corner of my eye. But it's just a baby gecko. There are even more baby geckos recently, though. Tiny ones! Kinda cute. So I walk along the sidewalk watching the geckos part like the Red Sea as I approach. Makes me feel important. Until I look up and see a giant rainbow. They say that Florida is the sunshine state, but I like to think of it as the Rainbow State. :) I suppose some people might get a different impression than was intended, but there are a serious amount of rainbows here. You never expect it, either. You just suddenly look up and there it is- blinding and gorgeous. You feel so small in the world compared to all the colors washing the sky. So I stare in awe for a couple moments, then resume my evening walk. As i hear fathers calling their kids inside from the baseball games, I have to wonder how I got so lucky to come to live here. In suburban heaven.
