New Times

I got myself a personal trainer. And I am super excited. The first day he showed me how to use the machines and only showed me a few that gave me a total body workout. I decided I will go to the gym a minimum of two days a week. It will have to be after work, because I leave before the sun comes up in the morning. We also talked a lot about fitness and things people don't know. We talked about how like a baby isn't born walking, he has to first roll over, then sit up, then crawl. So I am starting at the beginning and working my way up. He did the caliper things and said I have 24% body fat or something, which is just outside of the range of good. 18-22% is good. We also did a fitness level test where we figured out how much weight I can handle and how in shape I am. Of course, after sitting for three years in school, I didn't do very well, but he says I am only comparing myself to myself. So it ended up that I could do like 45 lbs on legs but only 15 lbs on arms. Ha!!

Today was the 2nd session. We talked about nutrition. What is good to eat and what is bad. I will be eating ~1300 calories per day, but I'm not going to count calories. I just keep track of how many carbohydrates, protein, and fat I eat. And I got a whole list of things to eat. I learned that caffeine is an appetite suppressant, which I never knew because when I drink Starbucks I get ravenously hungry. Actually, it's the sugar that makes you hungry. So I am allowed to order a small sugar-free low fat latte. That's cool. Basically what i've been drinking these days anyway. Oh, and Eggo waffles and Ritz crackers are out. They have high fructose corn syrup. Kashi apparently makes all sorts of foods without HFC. Here's a good recipe for breakfast:

1 Kashi waffle
3/4 cup low fat cottage cheese
1/2 cup cereal (without HFC- so I was using Honey Bunches of Oats, but you should get Kashi)
1/2 real peach sliced up
a few raspberries

Just pile it up and eat. It's pretty good, I just ate some.

Anyway I signed up for 10 more sessions with this trainer, because he knows what he is doing. He said he will give me homework and if I follow it, in 3 months I will gain about 5 lbs. Sweet.
