Tonight I finished my powerpoint presentation on "Dealing with Difficult People at Work." Very interesting stuff. For example, did you know that you can interpret people's eye movements to figure out what they are thinking? You can also interpret body language to tell when someone is going to be difficult. An example of this is when the person has their desk set up as a barrier in between you and they have a cluttered desk and their arms are folded and chin tucked- indicating they are too busy to talk to you. The bigger the desk and office, the more important they see themselves. The higher a person's status, the longer they will make you wait to see them. So that explains having to wait an hour at the doctor's office! They have acheived an all-powerful status in society, or so they think. Of course, my presentation incorporates some suprise twists along the way. I used the story of a famous Southern feud to illustrate how not to deal with difficult people. At the end, I will administer several personality tests on the class for fun. These tests can help identify strengths and weaknesses that help you integrate into a team. Fun!Monday, May 19, 2008
