Career

"Early to bed and early to rise probably indicates unskilled labor."
Indeed! I arrived at the "office" at 6 in the morning, bagel & coffee in hand like a true Washingtonian. It was freezing outside, and I think the coffee was the only reason I didn't come in with frostbite to my fingers. Thank goodness, because I needed them for all the work I had to do today. My office consists of an old dusty closet to the side of the stage in a local middle school. It comes in handy, though. I get a front-row seat to the band warming up. Not to mention the old theater dummy who hangs out stage left. I haven't named him, but I think he's kind of an interesting dude. Clearly, he has endured all sorts of terrible accidents; His kneecaps are missing, there are holes burned into his clothing, and he's been decapitated. Name suggestions? The day only got better, however, when, upon leaving work at an early hour, I found myself at the most fabulous mall that our nation's capitol has to offer. I went with a friend to find some professional attire for my impending externship. A strange Hispanic lady started following my friend and I around and gripping the clothes on the manikins and shouting in Spanish. We tried to walk away. She would walk by and mumble something in garbled English, trying to be helpful. At times, an entire conversation in Spanish would take place, although we tried telling her we didn't speak Spanish. The people at Taco Bell were just as helpful, although I suppose one might point out that it would be appropriate to order tacos in Spanish... I think it's time for me to learn some vocabulary.
